DISCOVERING BEAUTIFUL COLOURS

A practical approach to finding the principles of colour mixing.

The course aims to be an introductory study of how colours relate. It will be a taste of how to quickly find the colour you want and a practical overall view of the principles involved. It is a discovery of the simplicity that underlies these seemingly insoluble mysteries. There will be simple and enjoyable exercises to clarify how colours behave and you will gain an insight into a system in which you are the one in control.

Colours are rather like people, put them next to their friends and they converse happily, or even burst into song, but put them next to strangers then the result is very different, it could be a stimulating meeting of opposites, or, it could be a rather frosty silence, or even a heated argument. It is always a delightful surprise to find the combinations which sing and dance, and it is not always the way you would expect!

The workshop is for anyone who works with colour, but particularly for painters. It is also useful for interior design - working out a room scheme, for embroiderers, rug makers, textile workers, and indeed for all who work with colour. There is such a bewildering choice of colours available, you do not have to buy them all, there is a simple framework which enables you to mix the right colours quickly and easily.
