BABAYAGA
'Now, you must wash all these clothes', and she led her into a dark room piled to the ceiling with heaps of dirty garments.
'They must all be washed, ironed and folded before I come back early in the morning, and if they are not done you will be my feast.’
Then she heaved herself onto her broomstick and flew off into the night sky. Vasilisa gazed at the little doll in despair and said.
‘However shall I do all this in time?’ The doll spoke softly and assured her that she could, and that after she had done her best she should eat and then sleep. Vasilisa gave the doll some of her meagre crust of bread, and proceeded to do as much as she could, and then, feeling rather frightened, went to sleep.
In the morning Vasilisa found that the doll had done all the work and so when Baba Yaga returned she could not find anything undone.
